theSWEEN DREAM!
Steven Sweeney (theSWEEN) wanted to form a rock/metal band since he was 11 years old (while living in North East England), but never quite had the right people around him to form one at that time. He was learning to play the violin however, did not know how to play any other instrument that would be used in a rock/metal band.
At 10 years old he listened to pop groups like Erasure and until a friend introduced him to Guns N' Roses. From that day, Steven has listened to a range of bands like Nirvana, Machine Head, Pantera, DamagePlan, LinkinPark, Velvet Revolver, Robbie Williams, The Muse, Metallica, System of a Down, Korn, Drowning Pool, Audio Slave, Mudvayne, The Prodigy, SlipKnot, Rob Zombie, Sum41, Bloc Party, The Darkness, Electric Six, The Eighties Matchbox Be-Line Disaster, Eminem, Green Day, Queens of the Stone Age, Static-X, Three Days Grace, Tenacious D and too many more to mention.
Steven started writing lyrics and making up tunes in his head and eventually acquired an acoustic guitar at around 14 years old. He practised putting chords together but could only play very basic chords. When he was 15 years old, he was given an electric guitar as a gift for Christmas by a girlfriend (just the sound he was looking for).
After years of light hearted practise and countless pages of lyrics, Steven fell into abit of luck while living in East Anglia. At 19 years old, he and a group of friends formed a band, which to this day never had a name. Steven shared the singing with another friend. The band lasted approximately one year. It did not work out but at least he had a band experience and had boosted his confidence.
Steven started concentrating on his own musical skills, invested in a Personal Computer and bought software to record his ideas. He moved to London and decided to use his computer skills to produce the music that had been building up inside his head.
theDREAM had begun!
After a few songs materialized, Steven began to think of a name for his own 'One man band'. Friends had nicknamed him various things, including 'theSWEEN' since he can remember and it seemed perfect that he should name the band after himself, after all, he produced the songs.
So, there it was. theSWEEN DREAM being born in 2002/2003 and theSWEEN named the songs collectively, 'Subsist in Ebony'. The songs are still in the development process and the mp3s are kind of demo's. theSWEEN has been concentrating on new music and has not re-mastered the tracks from 'Subsist in Ebony' as yet. The site will be updated with the finished product when it is complete, along with extra songs.
In 2003, theSWEEN joined a community of independent artists on a website called Dmusic.com. The Dmusic community has helped him along his journey greatly by commenting on his music, giving musical/technical advice and continually visiting theSWEEN with support for his dream. It has become place of lasting friendships, vision and motivation.
When 'Subsist in Ebony' was complete, theSWEEN immediately began work on his next project, now titled 'A Weak Minded Fool'. With the help of the Dmusic community, recording and production issues were resolved, software advice received and taken on board, constructive criticism noted and theSWEEN has progressed further in talent and style than ever expected.
The music from theSWEEN is heavy rock with an alternative twist, the powerful, earth shattering, and at times, attractive vocals of theSWEEN create a new world of musical possibility. Elements of 90's rock can be found along with a new drive towards a sound to sing along with while staying true to the Rock N' Roll and Heavy Music reality that will live forever. The foundations are clear and a tight, calculated sound will continue whilst pushing the boundaries and experimenting to gain a true SWEEN style.
In 2004, theSWEEN achieved second place in a Dmusic contest for best Heavy Metal Track. The Track nominated was 'Devils Own' from the second album 'A Weak Minded Fool'.
2004 also saw theSWEEN begin collaborating with other artists. Collaborations can be found through AUDIO.
Towards the end of 2004/beginning of 2005 theSWEEN became involved in an online collaboration between artists at Dmusic -

This new band has been named Megaspank and is not for the light hearted. The band carries a core 90's heavy metal sound with punk edges and cantankerous thrusts of anger while staying melodious and meaningful. Follow the link through AUDIO to listen to this project.
